Mansfield Martial Arts is an RCJ Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) school with classes led by Master Jeremy Metcalf (US Martial Arts Hall of Fame Inductee). Our school curriculum includes The Machado Method, created by Ninth Degree Coral Belt Master Carlos Machado, a former world master’s champion and student to the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Master Carlos Machado accolades include victories in world class BJJ competitions for decades. In addition, actors such as martial artist Chuck Norris and Keanu Reeves trained under Master Carlos.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art focusing on controlling your opponent in ways that force them to surrender (submit). Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu matches will begin from a standing position and the competitors will attempt to take their opponent to the ground. Some popular techniques include arm bars, locks and chokes which are used to submit your opponent. Other techniques used to control or move your opponent include tosses, sweeps, and holds.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a highly efficient martial art, allowing small competitors to have an equal advantage to their larger counterparts. This is done by learning to control the body using advanced leverage, grip, and position techniques. Students of the sport gain a deep understanding of the workings and limits of the human body. Better yet, our students enjoy highly increased physical conditioning and the enjoyment of learning with like-minded individuals, friends, and family.
MMA fighters (like those found in the UFC) helped to increase the popularity of BJJ. Unlike the kicks and punches found in MMA, our traditional BJJ classes focus on grappling. Grappling is a safe martial art for all ages, genders, and skill levels. Our students range from beginners to advance competitors, kids to adults, and everything in between and we love working together with each and every one. Mansfield Martial Arts is a family business and we would love to see you come join our family today!
